Stretched hair (1/30/12)

I have hair that shrinks. My hair (when it is completely dry) is about 1/3 the length of my stretched hair. It honestly looked like I big chopped!  I almost never deal with my hair when it is loose and dry. I twist my wet hair, and it gets stretched (somewhat) and I style it in some way (usually from my book, One Hairstyle, Thirty-one Ways, available for $5.00 on Amazon).  And since I don't generally wear my hair out, it's rare that I think about shrinkage. 

Over the past week I've had my hair in a variety of styles.  I left it in a twist-out for a few days, I did an updo, then I washed it, oiled it, put some curl creme in and did some kind of bang. Before I left the house, I took a picture so I could evaluate the way it looked. I liked it, and the way it felt - like some kind of cotton candy or a new type of dandelion. It was soft and compact and...short. I'll wear it like this again, and next time I won't be so surprised about the end result.  Do you mind your shrinkage? How much does your hair shrink?
