Half Cornrows with Braid Around Sock Bun

I actually got this style from a friend, Drea. She did a cute half cornrow 'do with a puff on top in her daughters in. Unfortunately, the puff didn't work for us as A's puff was too big so it covered almost off of the back. After trying a few things I finally decided to go with a bun on top. See below for instructions.

Instructions:
  • Start with completely (properly) detangled, well moisturized hair. A's hair was washed the night before, I banded it in 3 sections so in the morning it was slightly stretched out but still a little damp.
  • If you do not know how to cornrow, check out our Cornrowing for Beginners post.
  • Begin by parting the hair in the back from ear to ear. Once you have that section parted, tie off the top and part your first section near the right ear to begin you first cornrow. Make each section about as big as your middle finger or slightly bigger.
  • Continue parting your sections and cornrowing them. Adding your moisturizer and product of choice to each section.
  • Once you are done cornrowing the back of the hair, untie the top section and part a slanted section near the right ear, cornrow that section and do the same near the left ear. When you have a cornrow on the left and right side, part a small section in the middle and cornrow that as well.
  • You will now take your product of choice and smooth the "free hair" down. Place that hair in a ponytail using an ouchless ponytail holder. Once the hair is in a ponytail grab a rolled up sock and make your sock bun. Click here for the picture tutorial or here for the video tutorial.
  • Since A's hair has grown since we last did the "Princess Tiana Bun" I decided to leave some hair out instead of trying to tuck it under. I gathered half of the left out hair on the right side and did a big single braid, I then did the same with the left out hair on the left side. I wrapped each braid around to the front and placed one bobby pin through each large braid to hold it down. Note: I applied a generous amount of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to the sock beforehand.
  • I added some colorful beads, instead of using rubberbands on the ends, I decided to try out those snaps I found at Burlington Coat Factory. I also added a Hello Kitty bow and she was all done!
