Congratulations to everyone celebrating your Naturalversary, Curlday, Curliversary or Nappiversary! Going natural might be a major milestone in your life, it might be just another hairstyle, or it could be anything in between, but no matter how you look at the decision to transition - it is a change that should be acknowledged.
.....About a year ago I noticed that people celebrated the day that they went natural, whether it was the date of their last relaxer or their Big Chop. I know that the first time I transitioned, I relaxed my hair just before Valentine's Day in 2001 and I did the BC right at the end of June. (I went to a wonderful natural hairstylist in Stone Mountain, GA). The second time I transitioned, I relaxed my hair on October 21, 2006, according to the picture I found, and I BCd at the end of March or early April of 2007.
I sometimes wish that I commemorated my Big Chop experiences with more than just this one sad post-chop photo. I'd love to claim my Nappiversary because I feel like I've missed the chance to celebrate a decision (a couple of decisions) that I've really enjoyed. But I may not have immortalized those days because I wanted to consider them to be steps on my hair journey and not the journey itself. It's funny because those haircuts have resulted in more than just cosmetic changes. They have actually impacted my life!

In any event, I try to celebrate my hair and my decision to go natural by treating my hair well and making it look good (or at least decent) every day. While I am currently 7 months late or 5 months early for my own Nappiversary, in early April I am going to do a length check and take a picture. Have you celebrated your Naturalversary? What do you do to acknowledge the day(s)?
