Oprah has been on the cover of her own magazine for years now. We've watched thousands of hours of Oprah on television, and seen hundreds of photos. And hundreds of hair dos. Apparently, one thing we haven't seen is an O The Oprah Magazine cover with Oprah's natural (unstraightened) hair showing.
I know that a few years ago Oprah shared with her viewers that she had gone natural. Apparently she spends her vacations, weekends, and other down time "natural" but she hadn't let her wider audience know what her hair looks like (without a press) until now.
I'm glad she's done it, but I assumed, incorrectly, that she must have done this before. I was wrong. I guess I thought that if she's gone natural, and she walks around with natural hair, that it would be a logical step to have her natural hair on the cover.
In this time of debate about the professionalism and beauty of natural hair, is this is a big statement? Do you think this will have an impact on the perception of natural hair (both inside and outside of the "natural" community)? One thing it has done is bring even more attention to the issue!
