When I look around my hair supplies' closet, I realize that I generally do not need all of the stuff that I keep on hand. I have products, and I also have oils and butters to make my own products. At times like this, I start to try to figure out other uses for those oils and butters...and today I thought that I'd like to make cuticle cream!
If you are looking for a way to soften and moisturize your cuticles, try one of the recipes below. The mixtures should last for three months or more. And the massage should increase circulation and promote nail growth.
Shea Butter and Almond Oil Cuticle Cream
2 tbls. beeswax chipsStep 1: In a double boiler (or glass measuring cup) in a pot of boiling water, melt the beeswax and shea butter. Stir in the sweet almond oil. When all the ingredients are melted and blended, remove from the heat. If you are in a hurry, or just don't want to use the double boiler method, melt the shea butter and beeswax chips in the microwave on a very low setting for 30-second increments until melted. Then mix in your sweet almond oil.
2 tbls. Shea butter
2 tbls. sweet almond oil
2 capsules vitamin E oil
20 drops essential oil of your choice
Step 2: Puncture the vitamin E capsules and stir it into the mixture. Add essential oil (if desired) and mix gently. Carefully pour into your tins or jars. (1/2 oz. containers seem appropriate). Wait for the mixture to set and then seal with a lid.
Double Butter Cuticle Cream
1 tbls. cocoa butter
3 tbls. Shea butter
1 tsp. vegetable glycerin
1/2 tsp. vitamin E oil
10 drops essential oil
Step 1: In a small saucepan, or double boiler, over very low heat melt the butters. (Again, feel free to use the microwave). Allow the butters to cool slightly before adding the remaining ingredients. Stir until combined.
Step 2: Store the mixture in containers, then allow it cool either by leaving the (2-3 ounces of) product out on the counter for up to 10 hours, or placing the mix in the refrigerator.
Coconut Crazy Cuticle Cream
2 tsps. grated cocoa butter
4 tbls. coconut oil
Step 1: Gently heat the cocoa butter and coconut oil into a small pot until melted. (Or microwave until melted). Stir the mixture well.
Step 2: Pour it into several clean containers. Allow it to cool.
