CURLFRIENDS: Sheila!

Entrepreneur and jewelry designer, Sheila, has used her creativity to bring more beauty into to the world.

Why did you decide to go natural?
You can't beat hair as the best
  accessory, although earrings
 come in a close 2nd!

I can't remember exactly when, maybe about 6 or 7 years ago, I had only been thinking about going natural, when I actually found this book.  The title was "Good Hair: For Colored Girls Who've Considered Weaves When the Chemicals Became Too Ruff" by Lonnice Brittenum Bonner, now this was way before Chris Rock's movie "Good Hair". I took that book home and read it. I still didn't go natural right away. But some years later I did. Another book that influenced me to go nappy was "The Black Holocaust for Beginners" by S.E. Anderson.   Why must I strive to look like someone that I am not.  You know, why can't I be natural without being stoned to death? I just got tired of it!

What stage of life were you in when you went natural (personally and/or professionally) - student, working, in a relationship, parent?

Being an at home mom.

What is the best compliment you've received about your natural hair?

A lady told me my hair looks so healthy.

A pop of color
Do you have one tip for a new natural?

Most definitely. That would be to invest in scarves, hair ornaments, head wraps, learn to do protective styles yourself, remember
that you are beautiful, naturally. So you don't  back slide to the creamy crack, get support from natural sisters on YouTube, that really kept me strong.

Protective styling....

Do you feel as if your natural hair has influenced other parts of your life?

No I don't, It probably should, but I'm a work in progress, honey!

What are your top three hair products or tools?

Well, right now I am using a Shea butter and good old-fashioned ultra sheen hair dress mixture. I am about to try a new product called  "Quench". I really don't use any tools except a brush & comb. If I want curls, my favorite is a Bantu Knot Out.
