Curlfriends: Keysha

Why did you decide to go natural?
My first time going natural was back in 2004, but I relapsed to chemical processing in late 2006. By 2009 I grew tired of chemical processing and I decided to discontinue perming for good.  I am shy of 3-years into my natural journey and I have no intentions of ever going back.

What stage of life were you in when you went natural (personally/professionally) - student, working, in a relationship, parent?
Keysha's signature twist-out!
I was a student, wife, and parent. I received overwhelming support from my family; especially my spouse-he’s a BIG advocate of natural hair.
As a professional, it started out challenging, but I continued to embrace my look with confidence and as a result, my natural journey in my career has encouraged so many others at work to step out of their comfort zone and embrace their hair. It has been very liberating for them.

What is the best compliment you've received on your natural hair?
“Natural hair looks so good on you, it’s definitely you.”

What is one tip that you would give a new natural?
Embrace your natural hair, and Love It!

Do you feel like you are part of the natural hair community?
Yes, it’s awesome. I love how it’s becoming more prominent in commercials, modeling, and society as a whole.

Do you feel like your natural hair has influenced other parts of your life?
This journey has encouraged me to look deeper into making life changes around natural living. I consistently look for natural health, herbal remedies before considering doctors and/or over the counter medicines. I also find myself educating my family on natural living and natural healing. These things never crossed my mind prior to going natural, but there is something inspiring that happens on this journey that makes you want to make life changes to better living in a more “natural” manner.
What are your top three hair products or tools?
1.      Qhemet Biologics Alma & Olive Heavy Cream
2.      Virgin Olive Oil
3.      Denman Brush
