It isn't too late to give your Mom (or yourself) a homemade gift for Mother's Day! How about some perfume? How about a solid perfume balm? How about one made with your own signature scent?

  • 2 oz. Beeswax or a little less if you use a wax substitute like Soy Wax, Candellila Wax, or Carnauba Wax
  • 2 oz. Carrier oil (like jojoba, sweet almond, olive, or grapeseed)
  • Essential oils of your choice
  • A container suitable for solid perfume (like an old lipstick/balm container)

  • First, measure out your essential oils. Try a blend of three, with the first two oils being the primary scent, and just a touch for the third. Some scent suggestions include:

Rich Lavender - Lavendar, a little less Frankincense, very little Rose Geranium

Sweetness Personified - Vanilla, Cocoa Absolute, very little Ylang Ylang

Happy Dance - Bergamot, Grapefruit, very little Rose Geranium

Who's Hot? - Sandalwood (a lot), Orange (about 1/4 as much as the Sandalwood), Patchouli (1/2 as much as the Orange), Ylang Ylang (same as Patchouli)

You're as Young as You Feel - Grapefruit, very little Rose Geranium, very little Ylang Ylang
Second, melt the wax in a double boiler (or microwave it on a low temp). Add the carrier oil when the wax is close to being completely melted. Stir.

Third, take everything off the heat and mix in your essential oils. QUICKLY. Everything will start to harden immediately.

Finally, Pour the mix into your chosen container. It should harden and be ready to use within 10 minutes or so. Less if you use a wax substitute.
