Hair Tips for a Successful Vacation!

So I went on a 5 day, 4 night beach trip recently. My hair was still loose, and I didn't plan to bring anything larger than a carry on, so I had to be judicious with my hair products.  I decided to bring:

          2 oz. of my own Shea Butter mix (which doubled as body butter);
          2 oz. Taliah Waajid  Curly Curl Cream;
          1 oz. clarifying shampoo;
         Olive oil based deep conditioner sample pack;
         1.5 oz container of my oil mix (olive oil, jojoba, and some Beautiful Textures Growth Oil;
         10 hairpins...

and plans to twist my hair in small two-strand twists. I didn't twist my hair as planned, but my hair did well on the trip. I began with my hair gelled back into a ponytail... thank you TSA for not messing it up when I got my extra search...

 Later on I put my hair in two large flat twists.....

My night look consisted of me looking '80's fab and my hair in a textured puff

...while my friend gets her natural diva on....
and we look frotastic...

If you anticipate getting in the water, co-wash with conditioner first, and leave most of the conditioner in. It will protect your hair from absorbing chlorine or sea water. I rinsed my hair and used my oils after getting my hair wet, and on day three I washed and deep conditioned my hair. I spent the next few days with my hair out, both at the beach and out on the town. It worked out .....

Hair pinned back...

Note that my friend on the right has her hair in lovely
two-strand twists (with an updo)!

I laughed a lot because every time someone tried to speak to me that night, they first lifted up or shifted my hair....Finally, my last style consisted of me twisting my hair in large two-strand twists using both my Shea Butter mix and Taliah Waajid (I like to use two layers of product when twisting my hair, I noticed that it tends to hold longer).

Last night out.

Next morning, back to the beach,
updo with large twists & my mosquito bites
Overall, I would say that the same general rules apply whether on vacation or at home. Keep your hair strong, clean, moisturized, oiled, and sealed. That way you can take your hair anywhere. Hair is easiest to maintain in a protective style such as two-strand twists because it is easier to wash and condition in that it will not require the extra effort needed to detangle your strands. One of my natural friends kept her hair in two-strand twists for the entire trip, and it looked good the entire time. Another friend kept her hair out, but put in twists at some point almost every day in order to do twist outs and stretch her hair...but we all kept our hair moisturized...and we all enjoyed a beautiful trip with beautiful hair!
