I saw a tweet this morning about new Vogue online content featuring black models and their natural hair. Since I've seen Vogue Italia's "black" issues, and I've appreciated the intent, if not necessarily all of the content, I wanted to check it out. This Vogue article highlights a trend that the rest of the world has been privy to for the past few years: women are embracing their natural hair textures!
The difference is that now more and more black models are embracing their natural hair, and designers are actually celebrating their hair instead of carelessly altering it as often happened in Iman, Naomi Campbell, and Tyra Banks' heydays...again, this is another sign that everyone else is starting to learn what we already know....Natural Hair is Beautiful Hair! Trends are moving from the street to the runways, and vice versa. I hope that the fashion industry and society as a whole, takes note that this is more than just another fad.
