So over the past two months I've done and redone my two strand twists twice. I kept my last set in for five weeks before redoing them (over the course of three days) about three weeks ago. I generally recommend that people redo their edges every week to ten days in order to preserve their twists for a month or more at a time. Thankfully, I looked in the mirror last week, took my own advice, and re-did my edges. I've found that keeping my hair in updos has helped me keep my twists in, with minimal upkeep, for 3-5 weeks at a time.
Here are some photos:
This is the style that I did at the three week mark, called the Twisty Pop. It is a modification of the Lollipop found in my book, One Hairstyle, Thirty-One Ways.
I generally do a new hairstyle every day, but this is the first style that I did after refreshing my edges at the two week mark. It is an unnamed simple updo.
At the two week mark I refreshed my twists, in that I did a co-wash, oiled and sealed my hair, and redid my front edges.
This is what my edges looked like prior to being refreshed. They were fuzzy and sad. But since I experience this every week and a half or so, I knew that all it would take to make my twists look good was a little time, water and product.

| Fresh Twists Newly redone twists - I was tired! |
These are my freshly redone twists (from three weeks ago) - it took me several days but I washed and conditioned my hair, took out my old twists section by section, wet, oiled and sealed it, and used several shea based products to twist it.
I truly believe that we can all keep our medium and mini-twists for a month at a time without retwisting all of our hair. It is a healthy protective style that minimizes manipulation and can be styled in hundreds of (or at least thirty-one) ways. Like the book above, and check out the book links here in order to find hairstyles that can be done on twisted, loc'd, or loose hair.
