Are There Other Uses For Your Hair Products?

Have you purchased anything to create your own hair products?  I have Shea Butter and Olive, Grapeseed, Jojoba, and Coconut Oils in my home at all times.  I also have aloe vera gel, aloe vera juice, honey, lemons, and yogurt, and a bunch of other products that can be used for more than just my homemade hair products.  I was thinking of other uses for these ingredients, and I came up with: Body Butter; Facial Moisurizers; Lip Balm, and; Aromatherapy Oils. I have also learned that Grapeseed Oil is a much better oil for frying than Olive Oil - so I must admit that I have poured some of my brand new oil into a kitchen container so I can use it to cook also. I have shared some simple recipes for your use below.  Please let me know what you think....

 Body Butter

1&1/3 cups of Shea Butter
1/2 cup of Olive or Grapeseed Oil
1 tsp. or one capsule of Vitamin E Oil
1/2 oz. of fragrance or essential oils (optional)

Most recipes require shea butter to be melted slowly either in a double boiler or over direct heat, but I have made my own body butters by melting the shea butter in the microwave on about 20% power for one minute intervals until it is soft or completely melted. Melt the shea butter until it is in nearly liquid form. Add in the olive or grapeseed oil to the melted shea butter. Let the mixture cool for about 35 minutes until it begins to set. (You can speed up the process by pouring the mixture into a chilled bowl until it begins to harden.) After it begins set, add the Vitamin E and the optional fragrance or essential oils.

Use a hand blender, a lot of elbow grease, or a blender/food processor to whip the mixture until it becomes light and airy, like a whipped dessert. When the mixture reaches the desired consistency spoon your body butter into a container with a lid.

Moisturizing Spray

3 tsp. Vegetable Glycerin
1 cup Rosewater or Spring Water

Mix the glycerin into the water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on face after washing in order to seal moisture into the skin. (Adapted from a  Skrewtips recipe)

Moisturizer

1 tsp. organic honey
1 tbs. Coconut Oil
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice

Mix the ingredients into a smooth cream. It can be kept in the fridge for several days before being discarded. (From Natural Homeremedies)

Healing Lip Balm

1 tbs. Shea Butter
2 tbs. Calendula infused Olive Oil
1 tbs Jojoba Oil
1 tbs. + 1 tbp. Beeswax
5 drops Vitamin E Oil

Coarsely grate or chop beeswax and add it to the shea butter, olive and jojoba oils in a small pot or glass container in the top of a double boiler. Melt it gently over heated water. After melted, remove the mixture and add the Vitamin E oil. Mix gently. Pour the hot mixture into lip balm containers. Allow it to cool before putting the caps on your lip balm containers. (From Mountain Rose Herbs)

Aromatherapy Oil

1/3 cup of fresh herbs such as Sage, Peppermint, Rosemary or Rose petals or
1.5 oz. of dried herbs and
1 cup oil such as Olive, Jojoba, or Grapeseed Oil

In a clean bottle, place freshly chopped herbs or dried herbs. Add either slightly warmed or room temperature oil to the herbs. Sitr the oils with a sterile object to get out any air bubbles. Seal the container tightly. Keep the oils in a warm spot, such as a window ledge, for several days. Open the oil to determine whether the strength is to your liking. If not, strain the oil to remove particles and add additional herbs. When the oil has reached the proper strength, strain the oil to remove all herb residue. Reseal. Use as desired. (Compiled from Bella Online and Essential Oil Recipes)
