Two-strand twists and single-strand knots

I wear my hair in two-strand twists the majority of the time.  I do a lot of updo's, but it is out about half of the time. And I almost never sleep with my head tied or on a satin pillowcase. I didn't do it when I wore my hair in wash-n-go's or twist-outs either. Anyway, I say all of that to say that I am now able to do a comparison regarding the number of SSKs (Single-strand knots) I get with protective styling versus everything else.

I've noticed that with protective styling, my hair is significantly less likely to end up with the dreaded SSKs.  With the hair being protected either with my ends tucked in because of an updo, or just being manipulated less because of the two-strand twists, my ends aren't as likely to turn, then curl, then knot on themselves!

When I wore my hair out, I used to have knots regularly, and it was more likely for me to have them than not....and if you are saying - if you tied your head up you wouldn't have so many, I know that you are right, but I also know myself well enough to know that I'm not going to do it more than once or twice a week. The point is that I had to trim my ends more often, and cut more than I do now, because I had so many SSKs.

I was going to give you some advice on preventing them - beyond protective styling, and head tying, but I just did a quick Google Search, so I now know that this is an extremely popular topic. I am not going to reinvent the wheel (or copy anyone's stuff)!..Check out the following:

Mane and Chic, BrwnBarbie (YouTube), and tons of other people have given tips....

For me, I've found that two-strand twisting my hair has been the answer to many of my prayers!
