So Saturday I did something that I haven't done in years, and something that I hadn't really planned to do again....whitewater rafting. The first time I went, almost 10 years ago (really, 10 years ago?!?) I did it as a team building, group activity for my internship. I was scared, but believed that my life vest and the 15 other people I went on the trip with would be around if I really needed help. So let me say that I was not brave enough to float alone in a single person kayak. I chose the raft - it sat 8 and just seemed a little more sturdy. We were given life vests, instructions on saving people, and told to follow everyone else in the kayaks. I survived - and I believe that my TWA made it through with minimal damage.
Fast forward to this trip - taken completely voluntarily and with friends. I am on my second go around with natural hair, well into my fourth year, and no longer rocking a TWA. My hair is in two-strand twists, and in a style that I called The Shark, (see below), two small twists down the sides, one larger section in the middle twisted high, and the three ends into a bun ....cute - I think, but it was my first time trying it, and I might make some changes. Problem! It didn't fit under the helmet, which I hadn't planned on (since we hadn't worn them when I went the first time). I dealt with it though, and ended up with a tight, quick french braid - functional and still cute.
We did a Class 4 Rapid (apparently they range from 1 - 6, with 6 being the deepest), which really means that we encountered several spots that were classified as 4s, some 3s, and some 2s. It was AMAZING! I don't know if it was the company, the timing, my attitude, or what - but I enjoyed everything about it - even the times when I got completely soaked (to the top of my scalp), and when we dipped and "surfed" so much that I wasn't sure we'd all stay in the raft! Anyway we survived, had fun, and my twists looked the same at the end of the trip as they did starting out!
