So I've had twists in my hair for six weeks straight, and I decided that it was time to give my hair a short rest before I put them back in. It has been two days and I miss my twists already!!! Check out naturallytwistedhairstyles.com over the next few weeks for my book on two-strand twist hairstyles. If you sign the guestbook, I will let you know when the book is available for purchase.
I will gladly spend 3.5 hours twisting my hair if I can have a month of simple upkeep (keeping it clean, moisturized, and redoing my edges every week or so) and cute styles. As my first style, I wore my hair in a wash-n-go using the products that I purchased at the Natural Hair Show - and it was fine. I had a mositurized 'fro that I did in only 3 steps - wash, condition, and leave-in conditioner. The problem was....time. It took me about 45 minutes to distribute the leave-in conditioner and fluff my hair in way that I thought looked cute.
I decided last night that I would put my hair in large single strand twists, uncoil them, and have a style that would last a few days. My hair was clean and moisturized, I had the products ready, and I was going to dampen my hair before I began. Everything I needed. In my head, I imagined that the whole process would take an hour....I was wrong.
I think that I spent a total of 2.25 hours trying to saturate each section with product, comb and brush through each section, and hand twist it until each section formed a coil. I try to avoid using heat on my hair, so I went to sleep with a wet head, and I woke up this morning with hair that was too wet to uncoil. I'll try the coil-out tonight or tomorrow when it is dry.
