Today's Hair: August 27th




It was a New Day, New 'do kind of day. I had a messy bun yesterday that I shaped into something resembling a bow or Minnie Mouse ears - depending on who you ask, and I just didn't feel like walking around like that today. And I had some style inspiration - one of my co-workers had a a really pretty set of French braids, I have seen all kinds of braided bangs lately and there was a faux short hair cut I've seen that I fell in love with - if I find it again, I'll do a hair inspiration post on it...Anyway, I think all of that was on my mind when I came up with the style above.

1) I started by adding some oil and leave in conditioner to my stretched hair, and combing through the ends (they were a little tangled from my Bantus over the weekend).

2) I sectioned off a little more than 1/4 of my hair (a part from about the center of my head to over to my left ear, and from the center of my head toward my nose) to form a bang.

3) I combed through that section and did one large flat-twist across the front of the section toward my left ear and twisted the hanging ends. I took the hanging twist, brought the end toward the right side of my head, and pinned it into a circular bang. 

4) I took the rest of my hair, and flat twisted it from the right side of my head toward the left. When the twist reached just behind my left ear, I put the hair into a ponytail, and twisted the ends. 

5) I took the now single twist and pinned it into a circle also. 

Overall it took 5-6 minutes, but it looks nice, and it's a protective style that can last for several days to a week.

Product Review: Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Cleansing Cowash and All Natural Leave-in Conditioner

I purchased these products from the Eden Bodyworks booth at the World Natural Hair Show, and have just gotten around to trying them out.

There are several other products in this Coconut Shea line and includes the Control Edge Glaze (Gel), Curl Defining Cream, and Pudding Souffle. I may have to try to whole line, but I was so pleased with the consistency, scent, and ingredients in the products I tried, that I'm going to stick with just these two products for a while. One more plug - I was really pleased that it didn't take a lot of product to cleanse my hair with the Cleansing Co-wash, or define my hair with the Leave-in Conditioner.

Eden Body Works also has a Jojoba based and Tea Tree based product lines. The products are all priced at $8.99 on the Eden Body Works site, and may be purchased here. The products may also be purchased at Walmart.

New Video (Keek) - I took my flat-twists out!

I started with flat twists done on hair dampened by Obia Natural Haircare's Hydrating Spray and Moisture Cream. I followed it with my own home-made shea butter mix. I re-twisted after 3 days, re-dampening with the Hydrating Spray and sealing it with the shea butter mix. When I undid the twists, I used a mix of oils in order to reduce frizz. I'm not sure that I was completely successful, but I did like the overall look. Check out my Keek video below.

Product Review: Obia Natural Haircare

I did another brief video product review on Obia Natural Haircare's products. I purchased the sampler pack at the World Natural Hair Show, and decided to try the products on my loose natural hair. My hair was stretched and dry when I used a combination of the Curl Enhancing Custard, Curl  Hydration Spray, and Curl Moisture Cream. I first sprayed with the Hydration Spray, then did a layer of Curl Moisture Cream, then Custard to do a flat twist/two-strand twist combo on my hair.

Overall it felt moisturized, which is the purpose of both the spray and cream. I'm going to have to try the Curl Enhancing Custard while doing  a wash-n-go or to smooth down my edges, to see if I think it works as advertised.

Product Review: Creme of Nature's Argan Oil Perfect Edges (VIDEO)!

I did my first product review on Keek this morning! I did a blurb about my experience with Creme of Nature's Argan Oil Perfect Edges. I don't think that I mentioned the full name or the fact that it had Argan Oil in it when I did the review, so I'm saying it here. I obtained the product for free at the Natural Hair Freedom brunch, but the 2.25 oz. product retails for $4.99 at most locations.

Overall, it was a very thick product that brushed into my dry hair very easily. The effects were immediate, and I'll let you know if they are long lasting (they were)...but the most important thing is that I finally published a video, somewhere! Feel free to follow me on Keek!
