Product Review: Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Cleansing Cowash and All Natural Leave-in Conditioner

I purchased these products from the Eden Bodyworks booth at the World Natural Hair Show, and have just gotten around to trying them out.

There are several other products in this Coconut Shea line and includes the Control Edge Glaze (Gel), Curl Defining Cream, and Pudding Souffle. I may have to try to whole line, but I was so pleased with the consistency, scent, and ingredients in the products I tried, that I'm going to stick with just these two products for a while. One more plug - I was really pleased that it didn't take a lot of product to cleanse my hair with the Cleansing Co-wash, or define my hair with the Leave-in Conditioner.

Eden Body Works also has a Jojoba based and Tea Tree based product lines. The products are all priced at $8.99 on the Eden Body Works site, and may be purchased here. The products may also be purchased at Walmart.

New Video (Keek) - I took my flat-twists out!

I started with flat twists done on hair dampened by Obia Natural Haircare's Hydrating Spray and Moisture Cream. I followed it with my own home-made shea butter mix. I re-twisted after 3 days, re-dampening with the Hydrating Spray and sealing it with the shea butter mix. When I undid the twists, I used a mix of oils in order to reduce frizz. I'm not sure that I was completely successful, but I did like the overall look. Check out my Keek video below.

A Man's Perspective: Shea Moisture's African Black Soap Facial Wash & Scrub

Shea Moisture's men's skincare line co-sponsored a party I attended earlier this year. I was given a a bottle of the Shea Moisture Shave African Black Soap Facial Wash & Scrub, and I wanted to find someone to try it out and report back...Well Calvin was kind enough to do so! I gave him the bottle, and he used it several times over the course of a few weeks. Here is what he had to say:

"Every product in the overly crowded skin care market, promises great results.  Unfortunately, very few deliver.  Shea Moisture African Black Soap and Facial Wash is a welcomed exception to this rule.  It is easy to use and it left my face feeling clean and refreshed but not dried out.  Moreover, Shea Moisture Facial Wash made shaving much easier with less irritation than I normally experience with shaving cream.  As a result, I enthusiastically recommend this product."

This pre-shave exfoliating scrub has a pleasant, manly scent, but isn't cloying or too musky. The scrub is supposed to help prevent the formation of razor bumps and consists of African Black Soap, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Mango, Palm,  and Black Seed Oils in addition to Jojoba Beads, Chamomile, Willow Bark Extract, Extracts of Essential Oils, Vitamin A and other ingredients. I Think Shea Butter is Amazing, But...

I don't think this is for me. We all know that shea butter is a natural girl's best friend. At least my best friend. It's the base for all of my favorite hair products, I use it to make my own mix for twisting and to create lotions and body butters. As for oils, I still make half-hearted attempts to use the oil cleansing method, and I generally moisturize my face with jojoba oil, and my hair with coconut, olive, and castor oils. I also believe in good oral hygiene and beautiful smiles.

BUT...I have just come across an article about the Sengalese practice of tattooing one's gums with a combination of burnt oil and shea butter. Apparently the combination makes one's teeth look brighter and whiter, protects the gums, and is even supposed to improve one's breath. It is a tradition that has been done for generations. It seems like a painful process, but people often say (or said) "no pain, no gain".To read the article, click here.
