ABC - Another BAD Creation by @LovingYourHair

Can you say pretty? I can and it is pronounced Teyonah Parris. Last night at the Mad Men Season 7 premier party, Teyonah Parris looked gorgeous from head to toe. Her hair was in a fabulous updo by Felicia Leatherwood, aka @lovingyourhair on Instagram. Felicia described it as combination of "puff twist meets curls with a kriss cross Updo in the back." Whatever it was, it looked fabulous. Here are some photos:

 I am a huge fan of the show, and I'm glad to see that Teyonah is taking part in Season 7. I wonder if her character will rock an Afro this year, or stick with the wigs/press-n-curls that she's worn for the past year or two. I'm hoping that she has a new look, and a larger part this season, but we'll see on April 13th when the show premiers on AMC!

Lupita Nyong'o of 12 Years a Slave - Natural Beauty

Lupita Nyong'o was born in Mexico, raised in Kenya and educated in the US. She is a 2012 graduate of the Yale University School of Drama's Acting program, and upon her graduation she was immediately cast in her first film role playing 'Patsey', in 12 Years a Slave. Her next role will be in the Liam Neeson film, Non-Stop.(Source 1, Source 2)

I think Lupita Nyong'o is beautiful, and I know that I'm not alone. I've been seeing her on red carpets over the past few months, and every time I do, I appreciate the way her twa frames her face and her gorgeous skin!

Photo Friday - Naturals of the Week for 9/27

While I love Don Cheadle, my focus in the first few photos is his partner, Brigid Coulter. The couple has been together for more than twenty years and have two teenage daughters, Ayana and Imani. Brigid is an interior designer with her own company, Brigid Coulter Designs, based in Santa Monica and the creator of an African-print influenced textile line. Her clients have included the likes of Matt Damon and Alfre Woodard. She is also an actress, and after a hiatus of more than 8 years, she has recently been featured in a Walter Mosely play staged on the East Coast. Source

Recipe: Homemade Facial Moisturizer (or Find New Uses for Your Hair Products)

So I am always trying to find new uses for the ingredients I buy and have bought for my hair. Well I've found another one.
•10 tbls aloe vera juice (organic preferred)
•2 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin
•5 tsp jojoba oil
•30 drops pure essential oils (lavender is a good option)

1. Add all ingredients in a blender or in a glass jar, mix on low or shake until well mixed. It should only take a few seconds in the blender, but if you mix it in a glass jar, plan to shake for a little longer.
2. Store the mix in a glass jar in a refrigerator.
3. Shake the mix before each use.
4. Use as desired.
5. With proper storage, it will last for 2-3 weeks.

Last night the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, had it's UK premier. And today, just before midnight local time, South African President, Jacob Zuma announced Mandela's passing. 'Let us conduct ourselves with the dignity and respect that Madiba personified' He called Mandela the nation's 'greatest son'. There will be a state funeral shortly. There have been many recent reports that Mandela has been in poor health recently, and he had been on a ventilator for the past six months. He was 95 years old.

Oh Idris! So handsome, and so talented! 

Now you are going to bring the story of Nelson Mandela to the big screen in the film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, all about his 67 years in the struggle for rights in Apartheid governed South Africa. The official trailer was released on the iconic South African leader's 95th birthday, and the United Nations General Assembly played tribute by showing scenes for its members as well as Bill Clinton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, singer and civil rights icon Harry Belafonte, U.N. General Assembly President, John William Ashe, and secretary-general of the U.N., Ban ki-moon, on Nelson Mandela International Day.

The story will also touch on his relationship with his second wife, Winnie Mandela, who made history herself by being the first black social worker in the country. Actress Naomi Harris, most recently known for her role in the Bond film, Skyfall.

And his 27 years of imprisonment, including his time spent on Robben Island. It seems like it will be a powerful film, and I look forward to seeing it in theaters.
