I Got New Clothes!!!!

I love new clothes! I do I do I do! I know that there is a high associated with shopping - I've read about it, but even more than that, I've felt it!!!! I love buying things that I love... And right now I love all of my new workout clothes!

I generally exercise in capris in the warmer months, but I prefer full length pants in the cold. It is definitely true when I exercise outside...anyway I started on a kick a few weeks ago because I decided to buy some friends workout clothes for Christmas - because they work out, and you can never have too many workout outfits, and although I'm not a gym person, I like the idea of matching outfits when you go to the gym. Then I decided that I needed new clothes too.

My current rotation of workout clothes is from Old Navy, Gap, Lululemon, and stray pieces that I've ordered online or found at Marshall's. But there is a new contender: TJ Maxx! They have decided to stock up on workout clothes over the past few days. Maybe it's for everyone with fitness as their New Year's resolution or them snatching up some overstock, but whatever the reason, TJ Maxx has an excellent selection of good quality workout gear. Go! Take advantage of the selection and the low prices!!!

I did. I found full-length workout pants with sturdy bands at the waist and drawstrings! They keep pants up even when I am jumping or squatting and are a workout necessity, otherwise I am stuck pulling up my pants six times a class. Fail. The pants are all nice and thick with good compression (I HATE feeling myself jiggling when I run), cute designs, good brands - 90 degrees, MPG, and RBX. And all at reasonable prices.

I stuck with a color scheme - black and gray, and color blocking. I actually feel kind of like a superhero when I put them on.

Updated - B. FAB Atlanta!

I went to the 1st Annual B.FAB Awards bruncheon yesterday, and I had a fabulous time. If you haven't heard of them, Tastemaker Magazine is a subscription based, on-line magazine available six (6) times a year. They are physically located in Atlanta, but deal with subjects that millenials (those born in the 70's all the way through the 2000's) around the country find interesting. The bruncheon was the first bloggers/vloggers awards show - ever.

Ms. Raisa Lefe!

Anyway, Tastemaker Magazine put on a really nice event. Elasta QP and Lexus sponsored categories and the BASIC haircare line was the headline sponsor. Vendors included Motives by LaLa (Anthony), QRedew (a handheld steamer), a wonderful natural bath/body line out of Alabama, and Social Box, a new social networking photo booth company. The awards show also had two brief intermissions filled with a fashion show from an up & coming designer, and a swimsuit show. Some of Atlanta's favorite bloggers and vloggers were in the house including: Natural Chica; It's Arkeedah; Tarin Boone of Naturally Me Media; Lexi with the Curls; and Mahogany Knots. Both Pretty Girls Rock Dresses and Oh Nikka were there along with tons of other notables. I've now heard of about 20 blogs that I need to check out immediately!

The categories were as follows:

Tori Nichel - (Former) Fashion Star

Tori Nichele - Image via NBC.com
While I was looking at the cast of the second season of NBC's Fashion Star last night, I noticed a big healthy Afro and the woman it was attached to! Turns out that Tori Nichel is a fashion designer with degrees from the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Design Program at Michigan State. While doing a little research, I learned that Tori has worked or designed for a wide range of labels in the fashion industry from Dana Buchman to Kenneth Cole, to Tibi, to Kmart, to her own Summer 2013 dress line available on her own site.

I also found an article capturing Tori's street style. She gave a brief history of her hair there....She has been wearing her hair in her signature Afro for about 9 years, and uses products like Organic Root Stimulator's Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion to keep her hair moisturized. And while she loves to use color, it seems that she uses makeup that is subtle and very pretty.

Tori describes her style as "tailored eclectic", and while her looks were enough to get her cast on the show, the buyers did not make any offers for her first set of designs. Fortunately she wasn't in danger of elimination, but I hope that Tori's star will start to shine a little brighter next week.

Click here for an image of her first design. You can see the full episode here.

- Update and Spoiler Alert - After Tori's design's failed to garner any sales for the second week in a row, she was nominated for elimination by the coaches, and let go by the buyers. Tori will not be the next Fashion Star.

Week 2 - the Buyers said that her floral look was dated...

Hey Look It's...Solange on Letterman!

So our girl Solo had a moment to shine on the David Letterman show last night! She performed "Don't Let Me Down" in a cute navy blue and white polka dot ensemble.  It consisted of a cropped double-breasted jacket and an on-trend flared skirt with a t-strap white heel. She arrived in retro shades and a bright color combo of an orange (Proenza Shouler) coat paired with a canary yellow, dress, heels, and bag.

The only thing I didn't like was her hair! I'm all for changing it up and trying new styles, and I'm never going to tell you not to wig it up whenever you are in the mood, but I don't think this suits her. The shape is a little too full on the sides, and in my opinion, it takes away from her natural beauty...look and let me know what you think.

Jill Scott and all of her Grammy looks:

Brittany Howard (of the group Alabama Shakes):

I couldn't find photos of her Grammy arrival, but I did hear Brittany perform with Elton John and members of the Zac Brown Band, Mumford & Sons, Mavis Sstaples, and others. I only heard of the Alabama Shakes a few days ago, and I was blown away by the grittiness of her voice. The group was nominated for Best Rock Performance this year, but lost out to The Black Keys.

If you would like to hear more of their work, here is a link to Alabama Shake's video for their single Hold On...

And Kelly Rowland: Her dress was so amazing that I added a photo:

Solange is Living It Up in Milan...

Solange Knowles was seen sitting in the first row of Roberto Cavalli's Just Cavalli fashion show over the weekend. Milan's Fashion Week also brought out rapper Azelia Banks. Apparently both ladies performed after the show at the opening of the new Just Cavalli store.

At the show...I love the outfit, her skin looks beautiful, and her Afro was in full effect at each event...Source

After the show Solange changed into this:

She exchanged her bold lip color for neon pumps!

And last night Solange looked stunning:

And in local news, Ms. Knowles recently put out a teaser trailer for the song "Losing You" on her SolangeKnowlesMusic Channel on YouTube. Check it out below:

Hey Look It's....Solange for Madewell!

So Solange just landed a new modeling gig as the face of Madewell (J. Crew's younger/funkier brand). She's a great choice! She is known for her own fresh, eclectic style and it seems to really match up with the brand. I know that she doesn't want to be VP of Natural Hair, but I have to comment. Her hair looks fantastic.... Check out the photos below:

This isn't Solange's first time servings as a model/spokesperson. The (new) Brooklynite has served as the face of Rimmel London since last year and was 2008 brand ambassador for Armani.

Here is the video for the behind the scenes photo shoot.
