Yesterday's Hair - August 14th

Yesterday I did a Keek about my hair...it was in a banana clip!!!! But not all of it, because I think that it would push my poor banana clip beyond its capabilities. Anyway, while I was in Connecticut last week I had about 90 minutes to get from full parade mode and parade gear (t-shirt, shorts, Vibrams, and a 2-day-old twistout) into something that would work for a Frat sponsored boat cruise...I ended up doing a ponytail and created twists from the ends of the ponytail, I did some flat twists in the front, and pinned it up into something I thought was pretty cute.

I took it out on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, I had it in an extended bun. I took the first 1/3 of my hair (that had previously been flat twisted, took it all as one section and did a few twists at the root. I pinned it. I took the back and put the banana clip around my textured hair. I closed the clip after only 2 tries, and added the hair from the front. I then split the hair in two (1/2 towards my left ear, 1/2 towards the right) and pushed the right side going forward and the other half going back, pinning as I saw fit.

Me & MHE Magazine

Hello!!! Just wanted to let you know that I'm in the latest issue of MHE Magazine. I've been in the last several editions and will definitely be in the next one coming up, so please check me out, check them out, like them on Facebook and please purchase copies in Publix stores locally (Atlanta) and online everywhere else.

I've done all twisted styles in the past, and even in the current edition (it's called "Curlfriend"), but next time I'm mixing it up with a style on loose natural hair. Do you have any suggestions?

Banana Clips for EVERYONE!!!!

I tried to force my loose natural hair into a banana clip this morning. I have grown to love banana clips and use them fairly regularly now, with my twisted hair. But today - my banana clip didn't work! The frayed plastic ends refused to hold no matter what I tried. I used the technique I've advocated in the past - make a high ponytail, then use your banana clip at the base. I took about a quarter of my hair out of the clip and formed a bang. That didn't work either. My hair wasn't having it, and after 5 minutes of trying, I gave up, and moved on to a ponytail (formed from a headband).

My co-worker complimented my hair, and we had a brief discussion about the failures of the modern banana clip. The conversation inspired me to find a source for banana clips for those with natural hair who have considered ponytails when the Goody clip is no longer enough. After a quick search on Long Hair Forum, then the Ulta.com site, then a few others, I came across a reference to Gladhair.com, and there I struck the motherload!!! These clips range in length from 3.5 inches all the way up to 6.5 inches and come in a variety of styles and colors.

Recent Two-strand Twist Styles....

I have been on a banana clip kick for the past few weeks...mostly because I have used, and apparently discarded, at least 100 hair pins over the past few months. How, I really couldn't tell you, but the point is that I started using the banana clips that I originally purchased for my niece and had to come up with some new styles. I won't say that I've never used banana clips or that I don't like them - I actually have one banana clip style in my book, One Hairstyle, Thirty-one Ways, and at least two variations using them, but they are not a regular part of my hair routine. However, out of necessity I used them and I think I came up with some cute styles that either completely cover or barely show the actual banana clip. Here they are:
