Updated - B. FAB Atlanta!

I went to the 1st Annual B.FAB Awards bruncheon yesterday, and I had a fabulous time. If you haven't heard of them, Tastemaker Magazine is a subscription based, on-line magazine available six (6) times a year. They are physically located in Atlanta, but deal with subjects that millenials (those born in the 70's all the way through the 2000's) around the country find interesting. The bruncheon was the first bloggers/vloggers awards show - ever.

Anyway, Tastemaker Magazine put on a really nice event. Elasta QP and Lexus sponsored categories and the BASIC haircare line was the headline sponsor. Vendors included Motives by LaLa (Anthony), QRedew (a handheld steamer), a wonderful natural bath/body line out of Alabama, and Social Box, a new social networking photo booth company. The awards show also had two brief intermissions filled with a fashion show from an up & coming designer, and a swimsuit show. Some of Atlanta's favorite bloggers and vloggers were in the house including: Natural Chica; It's Arkeedah; Tarin Boone of Naturally Me Media; Lexi with the Curls; and Mahogany Knots. Both Pretty Girls Rock Dresses and Oh Nikka were there along with tons of other notables. I've now heard of about 20 blogs that I need to check out immediately!

Hair Envy? Teyonah Parris

I remember Teyonah Parris from one of my favorite shows, Mad Men. I saw her and thought that she was pretty, I also thought that it was a shame that she was wearing that wig (as in that particular wig that someone chose for her) on the show. But I figured it is a period show, and that is likely how black women were wearing their hair in the mid-1960's. Anyway - I had no idea about the majesty of  Ms. Parris' hair until this now iconic moment at the SAG Awards:

Ms. Felicia Leatherwood, @lovingyourhair on Twitter, is the amazing stylist that created this style. I believe that there are tutorials on this style on Essence.com and Weareonyx.com. She is also the woman behind Jill Scott's hair transformations. So you know that she is creative, and versatile, and imaginative, but I say all of this to say that I am always impressed with her work...But this post is supposed to be about Teyonah Parris, so let me get back to raving about her hair!

And I loved her slightly stretched 'fro with the pinned across bang. She looked great. Then I did a little more research. She did a really cute flat twist style that she found on YouTube. It looked liked this:

I really like her hair, and the way she changes it up! My motto is "New day, New 'do" (you can find a month's worth of  styles in my e-book, One Hairstyle, Thirty-one Ways available on Amazon) add it looks like she believes in it too! I hope that as we see more and more of her on TV and hopefully in movies and plays, that she brings her big hair, don't care attitude with her! And if you know her hair routine, let me know. She Didn't Win, But She Looked So Cute!

So Quvenzhane' Wallis was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress. She didn't win (Jennifer Lawrence did for Silver Linings Playbook), but Quvenzhane' looked very cute last night, and yes she had one of her 20 puppy purses with her:  Ms. Wallis' next project is the Will & Jada Smith produced Annie! 

I think it is just a press, but in any event she has looked
adorable throughout the awards season.

Curly Nikki Was Here...and so was I

So last night's Curly Nikki event at Do-Restaurant at the View was sponsored by Mizani and attended by hundreds of ATL naturals. While I was sad that I didn't make it to the Bronner Brothers' Hair Show and last night's Battle Royale - I am glad that I finally got to see Curly Nikki. As I said in my earlier post, I've been reading her blog for years, and have always loved her posts. BTW - she is TINY!!! And VERY nice - she hugged everyone that took photos with her and seemed to smile through what looked like 100s of photos...

Anyway, I made it to the event, got some photos, passed on my card and promoted for One Hairstyle, Thirty-one Ways and the blog. I may have even found some new Curlfriends!!

Brittany Howard (of the group Alabama Shakes):

I couldn't find photos of her Grammy arrival, but I did hear Brittany perform with Elton John and members of the Zac Brown Band, Mumford & Sons, Mavis Sstaples, and others. I only heard of the Alabama Shakes a few days ago, and I was blown away by the grittiness of her voice. The group was nominated for Best Rock Performance this year, but lost out to The Black Keys.
