Hey Look It's....Jada!

I know that I cover the Smith family often, but they continue to do such interesting things with their hair, that I just can't help myself. They are a family that really believes in my "New Day, New 'do" motto. Last night Jada was honored by the Make Equity a Reality Foundation in Beverly Hills. She rocked a new look.

Jada has been wearing the sides of her hair shorn for quite some time, and now she's taken it to a new level by simultaneously bleaching the sides. I kind of looks like a clean shave. I don't think it's her best look. Not because she is too old to wear this or any other hairstyle, it's just that it would likely look better when the rest of her hair is down, or if she had platinum highlights in the rest of her hair. Right now it is just too jarring for me to find it appealing. What do you think?

Hey Look It's....Quvenzhane!

Here she is filming Annie on the streets of NYC! I'm looking at the hair and trying to figure out if it's a wig or her own...I'm thinking a wig, but at least it looks natural - and serves as a nod to the original Annie film.

Apparently Cameron Diaz will also be in the film as the evil Miss Hannigan, a role that Carol Burnett held in the original. I can't wait to see how they update the movie...

Look It's...Jada & Family in NYC, Afropunk Fest & VMAs!

I'm late - these photos came out Friday, but here are Will & Jada Smith on the streets of NYC. I wanted to show Jada's new 'do, and those cute shoes!!! I like it when she wears her hair curly...It's good to see them looking healthy and happy.

Willow is starting to look very grown-up! She sported bangs and a new ponytail as she hung out with her parents.

Update (Saturday)

Apparently they were in NYC for a reason...Everyone went to the Afropunk Festival yesterday. I knew that ?estlove, Saul Williams, Theophilus London and others were set to perform at the Brooklyn, NYC based festival, but I didn't realize that Wicked Wisdom, In Living Color, The Heavy and a whole host of others would be there also. Here are some photos of the performance and the family hanging out and enjoying the day.

Hey Look It's....Oprah

Oprah's new film, The Butler, had a special advanced screening last night at New York's Hearst Tower. Oprah hasn't been in a film since 1998's Beloved, and it took some prodding from Director Lee Daniels (of Precious fame) to make it happen. It seems like a good film with historical resonance, and a memorable scene with Terrence Howard, so I'm glad that Oprah returned to the screen to take part.

Designers Rachel Roy, Vera Wang, Prabal Gurung, Tracy Reese were there as well as Barbara Walters, Gloria Steinem, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Gayle King, and Forest Whitaker (star/producer). Very interesting crowd.. The event was sponsored by O. The Magazine. The film will be released on August 16th.

But I wanted to talk about Oprah's hair. It looks like she, or her style team, have really started to embrace her natural texture.I think it's (probably) all her hair, and it looks full, well moisturized, and healthy. I definitely like it better than some of the styles she's worn in the past, and I hope that she continues to wear it natural.

New Day, New 'do: Ciara

When I saw Ciara's hair last week, I just chalked it up to a New Day. New 'do situation, where she was trying out the "natural look". But the more that I see it, the more I'm starting to wonder if the "Body Party" singer is putting her natural hair on display, with a few added pieces for length. What do you think?

Hey Look It's...Anala Beevers, Child Genius!

I was just reading People Magazine and saw this story about Anala Beevers. At just 4 years old, she is a member of MENSA and therefor a certified genius! Apparently she knew the English alphabet at 4 months old, and could count in Spanish by the time she was 18 months old, but her specialty is geography, and she knows the states, their capitals, and is learning about other countries and their capitals also. Most importantly, she knows that she is "really smart". - Good for her!

Some of the comments associated with the article referenced above doubted her ability to know the alphabet at 4 months, but I do not, because I recall watching a documentary about a 10 year old girl that could speak by the time she was 2 weeks old (scary, so scary that I still remember it 15 years later)...so although it sounds improbable, Anala may have been able to speak by 4 months and if she couldn't speak, she may have been able to point to the letters.

Prince Covers V Magazine...

Hey Look It's...Prince! The Purple One graces the August 2013 cover of V Magazine. The magazine is focused on fashion, art, music and film, so it seems like a perfect fit for him and the magazine.

The cover should hit newsstands on July 18th. Prince's clothing hasn't really changed over the past 30 years, but he has recently changed his look by embracing the Afro! It is looking full and well moisturized.

Prince looks great for 54, and somehow his eyeliner only makes him look better! In the related interview Prince talks about his aversion to lip synching, cell phones, and speaking in general during the interview. Read more here.
